He has taught French and linguistics at secondary and college levels, and has carried out research into the linguistics of the Indo-European languages. He is a former senior editor with W & R Chambers of Edinburgh, and is the author of three books on English grammar, usage and spelling. His main areas of interest are grammar and punctuation.
